where it all started
When I introduce myself to new people, I usually say I’m “Emma from Ohio.” More specifically, I’m from a town of about 1,400 people in the northwest corner of the state. I went to school in the same building from kindergarten through senior year and graduated with a class of just 29 students.
My introduction to marketing came through three years in my high school’s Media Writing class. Our class managed Arlington Local School District's website and social media platforms, with the goal of creating content that represented our students, events, and town. I wasn’t just completing assignments; I was designing sports graphics, writing news articles about alumni, and editing fun videos that people in my community genuinely cared about.
Senior year, I joined the Yearbook class to challenge myself creatively and was promoted to Senior Editor. At the same time, I became Webmaster, Social Media Manager, and Editor for Media Writing. Suddenly, I was balancing multiple platforms, projects, and teams.
I helped grow our audience by over 600 followers across all platforms. I started producing weekly episodes of our student media show that became something the entire town looked forward to. Hearing people talk about our videos, share our posts, and recognize our work made the connection feel real.

Why Marketing:
This experience showed me that marketing could be a real career path for me because it brought together storytelling, community, and creativity. It taught me that the work I enjoy most is the work that shapes how people see and connect with the world around them.
